“Self-confidence is the first requisite to great undertakings.” – Samuel Johnson
There’s a lot of truth to the quote above by Samuel Johnson. Almost everything great starts with self confidence.
Confidence is what sunlight is to plants, without it, you’ll struggle, be unhappy, and find it hard to make real progress. Confidence is a big part of success, doing things exceptionally well, and being proud of what you do. Confidence is a big part of being happy and developing your skills.
These 3 powerful ways to boost confidence have helped me a lot, and still do. So I’m sure you’ll gain value from this article to help you on your journey.
1. Sharpen your skills.
When I first started out blogging 2 years ago, I lacked the confidence I now have today. I was quite nervous, mainly because I had no idea If I was, or would be good at it.
After all, I was just a beginner. I had only just started. But as I continued to blog, write articles, and sharpen my skills, all of that soon changed within no time at all.
The better I became at writing, blogging, and getting my content out there, the more my self confidence rose. I was even afraid of guest blogging for other, larger websites in the beginning.
So I purposely didn’t write for other websites. Especially after my first ever guest article was turned down. But that’s not the case now. I have more confidence in myself simply because I sharpened my skills by persevering. By writing article after article, blog posts after blog posts, and receiving feedback for my work too.
The kind of feedback your receive normally reflects the amount of progress you’ve made, and how much you’ve developed your skills. Whatever your profession might be.
So instead of shying away from the things you’re not confident in, why not focus on developing those skills? Why not focus on sharpening your skills, staying consistent and doing everything in your power to become better?
The better you are, and the more your feedback validates that, the higher your self confidence will become.
2.Take Immediate action.
“Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.” – Dale Carnegie
As stated in the quote above, actions breeds confidence and courage. Normally when someone lacks self confidence, inaction is one of the main reasons for that.
Telling yourself things like – “I’m no good at this, so why bother” will only bury your confidence deeper in the ground. Self confidence isn’t built from that type of mindset.
I did the same thing before I wrote my first eBook. “I don’t have the skills to do this”, etc. Yet when I took Immediate action, everything changed.
Confident people are action orientated people. And because they continue to take action, their confidence never stops rising. You’ll struggle to find many people who are action orientated and have little confidence.
Similar to what I mentioned in step 1, the more consistent I was and the more articles I wrote, the more my self confidence grew. So If your major problem right now is lack action, I want you to take Immediate action after reading this post.
You’ll thank yourself for it in the future once you start seeing major results, trust me.
3. Put yourself out there.
“The way to develop self-confidence is to do the thing you fear and get a record of successful experiences behind you.” – William Jennings Bryan
If you have dreams to become something, you’ve got to put yourself out there. And even If you’re pursuing your dreams or doing what you believe in, you’ve got to put yourself out there consistently. The moment you stop is the moment your confidence will drop.
So what do I mean by putting yourself out there? Share your talents, your work, what you believe in, your opinions and so on. YouTube is the perfect example for this.
If you’re good at making people laugh, why not create a YouTube channel based on that? And start knocking out videos? Today? If you’re a singer, but the world doesn’t know it yet, why not put your material out into the world? Why not record some songs and upload them to YouTube?
If you’re great at selling products, why not create a business and reach as many people as you can? Why not spread the word with your friends and contacts, instead of “keeping it to yourself”?
If you’ve got something to offer, you better believe someone out there would love to see it, hear it, use it, have it.
If you keep it to yourself and keep it a secret, you’re basically refusing to help others and provide the type of value many people would appreciate.
And besides, putting yourself out there will take your confidence to another level. Confidence Is sexy, It’s attractive, and the more you have of it, the further you’ll get. It’s the key to making progress in your life and your career. Period.
I hope these 3 steps have helped you on your journey to building self confidence.
Don’t forget to take action as soon as possible, because knowledge Is useless If you never do anything with it!
