So you want to get more out of your video marketing tools? It’s possible, if you do it right. Follow the five steps here to ramp up productivity from your marketing videos today.

KEY #1: Use the right kind of title.

When your ideal clients see the title of your video in their search results or “related video” sidebar, they should instantly think, “I have that problem!”, “I want that solution!” or “I’ve been looking for the answer to that question!” So choose a title that mentions a problem they know they have, or offers a benefit they desire, or provokes curiosity while still telling them what the video is about. When you’re creating your title, keep it simple, and try to use the same phrasing your ideal clients would use. The more closely the title of your video matches the phrase they type into the search bar, the more prominently it will appear, and the more attractive it will be to them.

KEY #2: Include three key elements in your video script.

All of your videos should include these three elements:

1. An introduction that tells them what they’ll learn in the video, and how it will benefit them.

2. Content they can use right away to solve a problem, improve their lives, or understand something that’s been confusing them.

3. An invitation for them to take the next step, whether that’s signing up for a webinar, buying a product, visiting your website, booking a consultation, or whatever else you want them to do. I suggest having only one call to action per video, so your audience doesn’t get ‘decision paralysis’.

KEY #3: Speak slowly and clearly.

If your viewers have to strain to figure out what you’re saying, they probably won’t enjoy your video. Their mental energy will be focused on hearing your words rather than on understanding them, and they might just give up halfway through. So while recording your video, speak slowly and clearly. Don’t get nervous and rush through your message. Relax, enunciate, and take your time.

KEY #4: Be animated.

If you stand perfectly still, and don’t project your emotions through your voice, you’ll be surprised by how wooden you look on screen. Pumping extra emotion into your voice, smiling more than you normally would, and gesturing with your hands may feel unnatural and weird at first. However, it will make your on-screen presence much warmer, more inviting and more interesting, and it will help to draw your audience in. By showing your own enthusiasm and confidence, you also help your audience to feel confident and enthusiastic about acting on your offer.

KEY #5: Put your videos where people are looking for them.

It isn’t enough to simply create a video and hope that people find it. You need to put it where people are looking for advice on your topic. Facebook groups, Twitter hashtags, advice or “how to” sites, and online forums are all places and mechanisms you can use to put your advice in front of people who are already interested in your topic.

Now it’s your turn. Do you have any video marketing tips? What is your biggest challenge in the area of video marketing? I look forward to reading your comments.
