At this point most of us realize that we can use eBay, Craigslist, or Freecycle to get rid of the clutter that surrounds us. Why not? It’s a great way to collect a little cash for your unused toys, electronics, etc. Well, what happens when you can’t unload something on these sites? Is it time to just toss in the garbage? No.
I think the first place you should look at is charity. If the item is still usable, give it to someone that has a real need. I donate to The Salvation Army. Not only do they resell the item in a thrift shop so that someone with a lower income can afford it, roughly 83% of each dollar they earn goes to fund services for people. If that’s not enough, you can also write off these donations on your US tax filing.
Anyway, let’s now assume that your garbage is really garbage and it has no value – to anyone. Now it’s time to recycle! One of the simplest tools I have seen to determine recycling centers near your home is a site named The Recycling Center.
It really could not be any simpler. You enter your zip code and it displays all of the recycling centers in your area.
Give it a shot and remember – don’t assume it’s garbage! A lot of your clutter can can be melted down and used for other products!
Visit The Recycling Center to find a depot near you.
