Moneygram allows you to send a money order quickly and conveniently to another person or organization. The system is also set up so you can track a sent Moneygram and verify when the funds have been cashed. You can even request a copy of this verification for your own records.
The first and simplest step to track a Moneygram order is to call the company’s toll-free number: 1-800-542-3590. This number is also listed on the official Moneygram website. It connects to an automated system that allows you to enter the serial number of your sent Moneygram and listen to a confirmation whether the funds have been cashed.
Once you’ve sent a Moneygram, you should allow up to three weeks for delivery. It may take even longer if you’re sending the funds over long distance. If the recipient hasn’t cashed the Moneygram funds after three weeks, you can log into the official Moneygram website and request a refund. To start the refund process, you’ll need to fill out a claim form with your contact information, the Moneygram’s tracking number and the amount of the funds sent. Before submitting the completed claim form for a Moneygram refund, you’ll also need to pay a $15 processing fee. Keep in mind that incomplete claim forms can result in longer processing times.
Visiting the official Moneygram website also gives you the option to receive a scanned photocopy of a sent Moneygram to verify that your recipient cashed in the funds. Knowing your Moneygram serial number is especially important for tracking purposes because a lost tracking number can take Moneygram’s service providers up to eight weeks to locate, and you’ll need to pay an additional fee of $40 for this extra service. Another recommended step is to contact the party you sent the MoneyGram to, whether by phone or email. If there has been a delay in cashing the funds, the recipient may have a legitimate reason that was not immediately apparent. If your recipient never cashed the money order, but it shows as cashed and paid in full, you’ll likely need to contact the Moneygram customer service department to report a case of possible fraud.
